What “it fits” means

Without a definition that would be an opinion, not a check. It is four numbers, and all of them are measured on the built geometry, not on intent.

Gap

The closest approach between the two surfaces, in millimetres. When the part reaches into the target, it is measured from its points to the nearest target surface; whether it sits inside is told by the overlap, not the gap.

Overlap

The deepest point of one body inside the other. Material inside material is a defect, not a tight fit — in a game such a joint flickers, and it cannot be printed.

Axis deviation

How many degrees the two axes differ by. A bolt that is not parallel with its hole shows zero gap and zero overlap and still does not fit — which is why this fourth measure exists. A part with no clearly longest dimension has no axis, and the tool says so.

Size

You give the size the longest dimension should have and the part is scaled to it. Uniformly — stretching one axis would thicken the legs and turn a round hole into an ellipse.

How it goes

  1. You drop in the part and the thing it should sit on. OBJ, STL, GLB and glTF are accepted.
  2. The tool measures the gap, the overlap and the axis deviation.
  3. It seats the part and measures again — only zero and zero means it truly seated.
  4. You download the result. Nothing is uploaded; your own browser does the work.

What the setter does not do

It does not rotate. A part lying askew seats askew — rotating needs to know WHICH face is meant to seat, and a mesh does not carry that. It has to come from whoever made it. So the tool measures the axis deviation and reports it, but does not correct it.
